| The collection of replica microscopes
is even more dependant upon expert and tasteful craftsmanship.
To present this teaching collection of rare antique microscopes,
craftsmen were found to use materials and methods from the past.
Working from original patterns, they used brass, silver, shagreen
leather from the sting ray, bone, rare teak and ebony, and finely
polished glass lenses, to reproduce seven historically significant
instruments in faithful detail. These instruments are, like the
originals, formidable works of art.
We invite inquiries and orders for the items described more fully
in these pages. It is our hope that the Science Heritage Collection
will contribute both satisfaction and information to collectors
and students who are fascinated by the wonderous world of little
things made visible through the microscope.
The Science Heritage Collection has grown from the publisher's
belief that the history of science can be experienced by thoughtful
people through direct contact with books and instruments of the
